Hey David, I'm a bit of a hack myself. I'm not really a programmer, but I've been able to modify some existing extensions to do do what I like. So far so good. I'd really like someone to finish the fbconnect extension(http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:FBConnect). There are a few things mentioned in the extension that still need to be done. I'm happy to share what gets done for this extension back to the community at MediaWiki.org. If your friends are interesting in doing that, plus adding a bit more funtionality - like writing to the facebook news feed when an article is added - that would be great.
I like mockup. Should we use that instead of the general login pod?
Thanks! Rena
Hi David! I have been using rent a coder to help me out with some development on the wiki. It just occurred to me that you seem to have a lot of knowledge about wikis and I was wondering if you have any experience with developing MediaWiki Extensions. If you do, and you'd like to work together, that would be great. Best, Rena
Hey David! Check out the changes I made to the skin. It was much easier to do as a mockup :) Let me know what you think.
Hi David, my computer was down for a few days so I'm just getting back to answering all my e-mails - a daunting job, but someone has to do it. Thanks for your kind words. It's such a pleasure working on the PetWiki, so close to my heart. Have a good one.
I posted a screen shot (this is just a graphic, I haven't done any coding work yet) http://www.thepetwiki.com/wiki/File:Mockup1.png
Let me know what you think.
The board-to-board is really cool. It came with the SocialProfile extension from Wikia. I modified the code for the extension because it seemed to really be for gamers (you use to be able to both friend and foe people). Wikia does really cool stuff.
Now I'm going to need some time think :). I wasn't trying to rush you - The forum doesn't always send emails - I need to make it the default setting to send them - so I wasn't sure if you saw that I responded.
I'd like to redesign the Facebook and the Twitter links altogether. I think that it's important to keep them above the fold, but I'm not happy where they are. What do you think about a little box at the right of the page with a few social media elements, including email to a friend?
Should I replace the Fan/Follow with another button or should it just be a text link? What do you think of "Add your article here" for the text? I just moved the page tools to the bottom of the page so that the content is higher up for people to read. I worry that putting a link under the search box will push the content down again.
Thanks so much for all your help. We're a pretty new wiki, and any help we get is REALLY appreciated! Especially from someone who knows what they're doing :)
Tried reading your forum message, but couldn't. Don't know why. I'm really not computer literate, I just follow instructions. I just think people need to be aware that those sites are available & they should be prominent. Merry Xmas to you too.
Hi David, tried to read your "new ideas" on the forum, but couldn't get through. I'll try again another time.
