The Irish Red & White Setter has the same personality as its cousin, the Irish Setter. But this Setter is a working gun dog.

While these Setters were originally red and white or all red, breeders preferring all red almost ran the red and white into extinction. However the breed was revived in the 1970s. In England, the Red & White is used for shows. But in Ireland, it is still a working dog.

Males are 24-26 inches, females are 22-24 inches. Weight is from 50-70 lbs. The ears are pendant. The coat is long and silky. Color is white with red patches. The tail, legs and underbelly are feathered. Regular brushing should keep this working dog’s coat clean.

The Red & White Setter has an excellent temperament and gets alongwith everyone. Children, other dogs, house pets, even strangers are welcomed by this Setter. But, as with all dogs, the Setter should have obedience training and socialization. It’s very important to work especially on recall training. Red & Whites are very active dogs and enjoy work. They need to have a job to avoid problems. A good run in a secure area is great exercise for them.
