What do you know about pets? Pet care, health issues, personal stories... All of these and more are appropriate topics for articles on The Pet Wiki. And if you just want to add or change something in an existing article, that's OK too. The Pet Wiki is the place to share knowledge and passion about pets and we want to hear from YOU!

[edit] Getting Started

1. There are two ways to contribute to The Pet Wiki. You can edit as an anonymous user or you can register and receive a profile page which allows you to connect with other members of the community.
2. Register from the navigation bar on the left by clicking on Log in/create account.
3. To start a new article you can:
   1. Type the title of the article in to the box on the homepage. This will open up an edit page.
   2. Click on the "Add Your Article Here" link in the left column. This will open a page where you can type in your title. Clicking create will open up an edit page.
4. To edit an existing article, simply click on the Edit button which appears at the bottom of each page.

[edit] Writing

1. Write about a topic you are familiar with or one you can research easily.
2. We welcome articles on a variety of topics, such as: pet care, pet health, personal stories, how-to articles, book and product reviews, etc. Any topic related to pets is appropriate for this website.
3. If the article is long, it is a good idea to divide it up into sections.
4. When editing an existing article, feel free to delete erroneous or superfluous information and add more accurate information.

[edit] Formatting

1. To create bold text, click on the "B" icon at the top of the edit page. This text will appear: '''Bold text'''. Replace the words Bold text with your text. Alternatively, surround a word or phrase with three apostrophes.
2. Italics works in the same way as Bold, but using two apostrophes instead of three.
3. Headings and subheadings are an easy way to improve the organization of an article. Click on the large black A icon at the top of the edit page.
4. There are two types of links available on the wiki:
   1. External links link to any web page. Click on the icon of the globe on the top of the edit page or type the link between single brackets.
   2. Internal links to other articles on The Pet Wiki can be created by clicking the "Ab" icon or surrounding the name of the article with two brackets.
5. If the wiki automatically formats your text in an inappropriate manner, highlight the text and click on the icon with the red line through the "W." The text will then appear exactly as you typed it.
